  • New Year’s Eve. Why Discriminate?

So I’ve decided to stay in this New Years.

    Why you may ask?

Well your inquiry into the nature of myself will now be rewarded.

I feel a strange sense of both apathy and hope regarding 2000 and Fine.

That and I am probably going to give up drinking again. Possibly even meat and caffiene.

Oh and like many others I’m poor.

Ultimately though New Years, and to the same extent Christmas, has no real meaning for me anymore. Christmas can just about be salvaged through contemplations of Hanukkah and Yule, and cherishing and treasuring the imaginative power of those most magical of creatures; children.

But New Years is just an arbitrary signpost in the passage of time that, like so many things, we have grown accustomed accepting as a universally recognised holiday.

Yes I’ll probably enjoy the time off and I will most likely phone my daughter to speak to her and wish her well. And why not? Her mother has chosen to raise her Christian, as did my parents although loosely so with me, and what right have I even as a father to hijack and confuse her burgeoning development? My only hope is that Josephine has enough of I and her mother’s compassion, thirst for knowledge to grow curious about other ways of interpreting life and all it’s myriad of experience.

As a Satanist, some people foolishly mistake me to be utterly Anti-Christian, some even come seeking a fellow soul and like mind to share their narrow minded, hateful, pent up pointless angsty dribblings.

I like to think of myself as more the Ante-Christ rather than the Anti-Christ. My particular ideas, worldviews and opinions born of (literally “Ante”) what I thought to have been the, forgive the term, omnipotence and omnipresence of Christian ideas.

Yes, there was a time when I was angry at God, and all those other inversionist qualities that I see in others and wince at, but ultimately my general sense of void at the mention of God or Jesus is because, after nearly 30 years of being told one particular subjective truth.

    I.

    Get.

    It.

But that doesn’t mean I’m born again. Far from it.

You see, and yes even at this late stage in the game this may still be news to some of you, there isn’t one all pervading reality or truth and it, or rather they if there are to be many realities, most certainly don’t always follow the Gregorian outline of time.

Modern Satanism, you may be suprised to hear, isn’t interested in killing cats, dogs, babies, virgins, taking over world banks, turning into lizards from Sirius or any of that other hooey.

Modern Satanism is in fact quite the most sympathetic, emapthic and open minded religion thus far. Yes Anton LaVey was a misanthrope with zero-tolerance for idiots, but shouldn’t we all be? I for one upon hearing of one man shooting another in the arm in a movie theatre simply for being too loud felt a sense of Satanic justice.

If anything, modern Satanism aspires to the absolute pinnacle of the idea of free will, by ensuring that freedom of speech and other individual liberties are not only available to all but almost assured. This may be done partly out of staunch Luciferian protest or just for shits and giggles at the undoubtedly inevitable intellectual and verbal dross some people still manage to not only buy but profess and press on one another.

So with this and the Satanic idea that life is one big party, and any excuse for a holiday I present to you three alternative New Year’s celebrations that are somewhat dearer to me and less arbitrary than something a cloistered eunuch dreamt up aeons ago.

    Samhain

    Rosh Hashanah

    Walpurgisnacht
